1 More Day Until Urbana 09/End of 2009

So, this is my last blog post of 2009! This is because I will not have access to a computer while I am in St. Louis. I can't believe a year went by so fast. And I can't believe that I'm going to a missions conference tomorrow. I'm actually going. Normally, with these kinds of things, I'm more of a dreamer than a doer. But with this conference I'm actually going. So crazy cool. It still hasn't fully sunk in yet, even though I'm pretty much packed.

This is so cool, that I almost forget how we got a snowstorm that lasted at least 10 hours nonstop and received 10 inches of snow (we were supposed to only get 2 to 3 inches). Or I almost forget how work wasn't great or how my New Moon outing was cancelled because of snow. Almost.

I just cannot believe I am truly going. It's so surreal and exciting. When I get back, I will do my best to write stuff down (if I'm not too tired). But in the meantime, Happy New Year everyone!

Merry Christmas 2009!

Hello all! Merry Christmas! ¡Feliz Navidad! Joyeux Noel! Natale allegro! Frohe Weihnachten!

To those fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who might be reading this, I hope you got to have a moment to rejoice the birth of Christ in addition to the rest of the festivities. To those who are not Christians, I hope you had a great day with family.

I had a rather good day, if I say so myself. Got a few good gifts, such as "Hairspray" DVD, "Fiddler on the Roof" DVD, a bunch of gift cards, Rick Steve's "Europe Through the Back Door 2010" (probably my favorite travel writer), and a year's subscription to the magazine "Budget Travel" (now if only I can afford airfare and rack up flyer miles, I'll be set!). Saw mom's side of the family, that was nice, and then we watched "Julie and Julia", which my mom got for Christmas. It was great second time around, SUCH a cute movie (you can't help but smile when Meryl Streep comes onscreen) and even my dad liked it! That was cool.

Well I have a BUSY day tomorrow. Tomorrow, I work from 8:45-5pm (ew), then I am watching New Moon with a friend around 5:45pm, get back around 8:30ish, spend the rest of the day packing and cleaning my closet, and going to bed EARLY because I am getting up EARLY.

Christmas Eve 2009

Well, it was a nice day. Weather was nasty, though. Here's a summary, since I don't have a ton of energy:

-Went to Christmas Eve service at family's church, it was good.

-Went to my grandmother's house (on my dad's side) for dinner and opened presents, it was nice (my youngest bro was THRILLED about the presents).

-Moped slightly because I couldn't go to the Candlelight service at my church because of weather.

That's about it. I'll try to clean my closet a little.

Birthdays and Other Stuff

So, today one of my brother's turned 6. Hard to believe. I think he had a good day. We went to Chuck E Cheese for lunch *shudder*. Just a weird place. At least a couple of the arcade games were decent. And the pizza. Cake was fine, watched "G-Force" which was... interesting, and had Panera soup for dinner. Oh how I love that Baked Potato soup.... Anyway, printed off some important info for Urbana (Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!!!), cleaned off a little part of my closet (hoping to do more before bed!), finished "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" (on to "The Lovely Bones") and I'm hoping to actually complete my wrapping (not that there's much to wrap).

I know there was more, but I'm not sure.

Productive Day=Somewhat Boring Day

Well, I slept in until 10:15 am today. It felt pretty amazing.... But I was kind of thrown off "schedule". Anyway, cards were finished last night, mailed this morning, and I spent the whole afternoon cleaning my closet (and it's only half done). It looks nice, it felt nice to be productive, but didn't have enough time to catch up with friends on Facebook before I went to work. So today was somewhat boring. Oh well. Work was fine, by the way, seemed to go by quicker than usual. Got some reading of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" in, that was good (I'm only halfway through the book and I have to return it on Saturday! Eeek!). I got a couple emails from Urbana 09, which made me SO EXCITED. I can't believe I'm leaving on Sunday. So weird and surreal, but exciting.

Oh, and an update. I found out that I got a B in Astronomy (YAY! Amazing for such an evil class), an A in Photography, an A in Basic Algebra, and an A in Spanish!!! Woohoo!!! Unfortunately, the B in Astronomy drops my cumulative GPA down from a 3.9 to a 3.8, but hopefully if I stay on top of my grades next semester, I'll be in good shape. In case you're wondering, the scholarship I got from Trinity requires a 3.7 GPA. Even though I'm not 100% sure I'm going there, I still want to hold on to any scholarship that I can!

Anyway, better go to bed. Sometimes, I think I should update this BEFORE bedtime, but oh well.

New Low: Procrastination DURING BREAK

So, you may be wondering, "How on earth can a college student procrastinate when they're ON BREAK and DON'T HAVE HOMEWORK?" Well, I will inform you with a few choice words: Cards and cleaning.

See, my closet is a bit of a mess. Okay, that'll make even Eeyore laugh. My closet looks like the aftermath of a hurricane that swept through a disaster area that's been thrown up and then exploded. So it needs to be cleaned during break, before Urbana so that I don't have to worry about it for the rest of break. However, I really despise cleaning... so I'm putting it off. I cleaned one section a few days ago, but at this rate I'll need to clean for hours tomorrow before work. Ew.... I told myself today that I'll be productive in other ways, like writing Christmas cards to friends. But I'm procrastinating that too. Argh. So I need to get on that.

On a different note, had breakfast with my mom today, we went to Walker Bros. It was very nice. : )

5 MORE DAYS UNTIL URBANA 09!!!

Progressive Dinners, Scavenger Hunts and White Elephants, Oh My!

Church was good, youth pastor gave it and it was cool. Saw some friends that were home, that was nice. Got to chat with a friend who's going to Urbana as well, that was pretty cool (he's not coming up with me, obviously, he's going with his group down at U of I). I seriously cannot believe that exactly one week from today, I will be in St. Louis. Crazy.

Now, with my Bible study, we did a Scavenger Hunt/Progressive Dinner (a progressive dinner is where you have different courses at different houses; for example, appetizers at Person A's house, entree at Person B's house and dessert at Person C's house). Now the way we did it was we had clues of what we need to find, we take a picture of what we need and send it to one of the leaders (the majority of people have camera phones). Then once we got our two clues out of the way, we get the address of where we will have appetizers, dinner, etc. It was fun, and what was funny with pictures is that we ALL had to be in the picture in some form or another. So usually that meant the picture taker stuck their index finger in the picture. It was funny, cuz the finger always looks bigger than the people.... Anyway, at the dessert place, we had a White Elephant gift exchange. I got a Soccer Nightlight.... Yeah.... It was funny. So good night, good night.

Um, still wanting to go to St. Louis, which is good. And I will probably totally regret staying up late, especially since I'm getting up semi-early. But it's all good.

The Final Countdown Begins: 7 DAYS UNTIL URBANA!

Yeah, I'm getting excited. I may have done this in a previous post, but again, here's the link, for those who have no freaking clue what it is: http://www.urbana09.org/home.main.cfm

Anyway, work wasn't great. So busy. Had a good lunch, at least. Cleaned a portion of my closet today. And I need to go to sleep, because I'm still fighting... something. I don't think it's a full out cold, but it has similar symptoms. I don't feel bad most of the day, but I feel worst in the morning and at night. So bye, I just want to go to St. Louis.

Saturday... Oh wait, it's Friday, isn't it?

Yeah.... I kept thinking today was Saturday. But it's not. So weird.

Met some friends at Panera. Worked. Watched "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian", which was okay. I need to sleep soon, so not much today. I'm still feeling kind of sick, though not nearly as crappy as I normally feel with a cold. Well, I'm not taking any chances, I'm going to get as much sleep as I can (which isn't much tonight, cuz I work tomorrow, but oh well), drink water and tea and... do other stuff.

Today I want to go to England, Costa Rica and Kenya.

I'M FREE!

I'M DONE FOR THE SEMESTER! The Spanish final seemed too easy. And I gave a friend a ride home, that was neat. Also: "Un día en la mañana, el sopo dice "Hola, la presa". El fin." My friend wrote it. Look for it someday. It's gonna be big.

Anyway, watched Half-Blood Prince, and chilled, right now I should have gone to bed an hour ago. Why? Well, remember that sore throat that I said I had? It had been mild all week , so I thought I could be okay staying up later. Big mistake. Now my throat feels really sore, so I need to sleep. I always seem to be sick during big breaks, what's the deal? Anyway, must go. Very happy that I'm meeting friends at Panera tomorrow, I need soup.

You Know, I Just Remembered Something: I DO NOT LIKE MATH

So, why did I forget the fact that is stated in my title? Well, first of all, my hatred of Astronomy was so strong that I forgot about my hatred for math (somewhat). Secondly, my math teacher made things a little easier. Third, my tests weren't that long, when you think about it. Well, all the above factors were gone the day of the final. My math teacher was sick, so someone else handed out the tests. Astronomy is over, so those intense feelings are somewhat gone. And the test just did not go well in my opinion. I used up almost the entire time (which is not good for me), and I completely blanked on one word problem. Ugh. I hoped I could get an A on it. Hopes dashed.

At least I got money from my Astronomy and Photography book. And my photo project seemed to go well, I got some good feedback on it. And I had a good dinner. And I DID NOT HAVE ASTRONOMY TONIGHT! Man, I love that feeling of being done with a class. I'm anxious about my grades, though.

De todo modos, necesito estudiar para español. Es posible que fuere dificíl, pero espero que hiciere bien. No estoy motivada-no bueno. Estudiaré mucho y tendré exito. Esperanzadamente. ¿Por qué estoy escribiendo? ¡NECESITO ESTUDIAR! Y necesito dormir....

También, ¿por qué leo las cosas deprimentes? Muchas personas puedan ser tan desagradables. Ellos no son desagradables a mí, a otras personas. Es muy triste. Bueno, estudiaré.

Buenas noches.

Today is a Balmy 8 Degrees

Yeah, I live in the Midwest. I don't know why though. What's even more confusing is that I am not leaving the Midwest for at least 2-3 more years. So I'm stuck with these winters forever. Seriously, it's SO COLD. Not happy.

Anyway, studied a bit for math test, then work. Actually, I should sign off early, cuz I need to study and I need to get up early tomorrow (therefore, I need sleep). Grrrr, I liked sleeping in. Oh well....

I'M DONE WITH ASTRONOMY FOREVER!!!

THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL!!! Actually, I never have to take a science class ever again, because both Astronomy and Environmental Biology will transfer to Taylor and Trinity! Yay! Even though studying for it took FOUR HOURS AT LEAST, and felt like TWELVE HOURS, it's DONE! And now I don't want to go to bed, not good.

Also, I had a minor panic attack a few minutes ago. Okay, it wasn't an ACTUAL panic attack in any way, but whatever. I look through my events on Facebook and notice that Urbana 09 was not listed there anymore. When I searched, it said "This event has been deleted". For one horrible, awful second, I thought that Urbana had been cancelled. But when I checked the official website, it was still up and running, just the Facebook event is gone for some reason. And I also reasoned afterwards that they would most likely not cancel such a huge event with only 12 days away. So things are good now. Man, I swear, I'm going to get diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder someday. And I need to be less gullible.

Today, my only thoughts are toward ST. LOUIS!!! 12 DAYS!!!

So Close to Being Done with Astronomy....

I never have to think about that class again after tomorrow night. I never have to know what cosmic microwave background radiation is or how to calculate the age of the universe or what the Hubble constant is or what it's used for, or what the crap is the difference between an elliptical galaxy, a spiral galaxy and an irregular galaxy or any more of this crap. I will be FREE!!! Well, okay, I'll still have 2-3 more finals, but in a way I'll still be FREE!!! In the meantime-yick. For the entire day for tomorrow. And I need to go to sleep NOW and sleep in way late, because I still have an on-and-off sore throat (sometimes I hardly notice it, sometimes it's pretty sore), and I have a headache (partly from studying, partly from a very hectic evil work shift this afternoon). Praise the Lord I only have one final tomorrow and none Tuesday. Sleep feels nice. And my desk is a disaster now. And I don't know where I'm going with all this. I need bed. I mean sleep. Argh. Good night. Astronomy is killing my brain cells. So glad I don't have to take another science class after this.

Today, I want to go to an era long ago, in a galaxy far, far away (okay, I'm losing it).

A Magical Evening

Okay, so the only reason I say tonight was magical was because I FINALLY HAVE THE DVD OF HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE!!! Not like I've been waiting for it or anything.... Anyway, great the third time around, but there's only one disc! There's absolutely no bonus features! Quite stupid, in my opinion. Oh well. I now want to go to Orlando to go to the Harry Potter theme park that's supposed to open next year.

The rest of the day was non-eventful, studied for Astronomy, played with my dog outside. I will say, that is ONE good thing about snow. When it's not freezing cold, of course.

I might go to bed early, my throat isn't feeling great and I want to take every precaution to ensure that I don't get sick.

Christmas, the Story of Light

Today, I went to the Christmas performance at my church, it was really cool. The theme was "The Story of Light", very neat. Some of my fave songs were "Let There Be Light", "Welcome to our World" (by Chris Rice), and "The Story of Light" (by Mark Harris, but the soloist at church was amazing). Fun time, nice to refocus for the CHRISTmas season. Otherwise, not much.

Still Kenya and Costa Rica for top places. And England, as always. Oh, and Oregon and South Dakota!

Why Do I Live in the Midwest?

It's freaking 9 degrees Fahrenheit here! And it was -1 this morning!!! Crazy.

Anyway, Spanish project went okay, I finished my photo project!!! Now I need to study for my Astronomy final, however, I am NOT motivated....

Also, today was my dad's birthday!!! I think he had a decent day (he never makes a big deal out of birthdays). We had pizza and cake. It was good.

It's Still Cold and Snowy

It is currently 16 degrees Fahrenheit. There's snow everywhere and the roads are a mess. And people actually LIKE this stuff?! Crazy.

But anyway, school wise, it was a decent day! In photo, I finished printing all my prints, so now I just need to mount them, maybe spot them (ugh....). But they look good! I got a 96% on my last math exam! So I now have a chance at getting an A in the class! Okay, so I need an A on the final to achieve that, so there's pressure there, but that's still cool. And Astronomy is DONE! Until the final that is. Ew....

I have a project for Spanish that I NEED to work on tonight, so that's what I'm going to do now.

I still want to go to Costa Rica (or anywhere in Central America). I still want to go to Kenya (or anywhere in Africa). I would still be willing to go to Arizona, California, Florida or Hawaii (hey, those were in alphabetical order!).

Walking in a Winter.... Wonderland?!

Snow has completely covered this area. I don't know how much, maybe a couple of inches. So I had to be dropped off at school and work today. I already miss my car (which looks like a snow beast or frosted cupcake outside). Everyone is ridiculously excited about the snow, for some reason. As for me, I've already decided I'm moving to Costa Rica. I mean, the snow is kind of pretty, but it's way too cold and makes a mess of the roads.

So yes, today I want to Costa Rica. Or Kenya (again). Or Florida. Or California. Or Hawaii. Or even South Carolina!!! *sigh*

After that, the rest of finals will be a party. It will be wonderful.

Anyway, got some stuff done at photo lab, Math test was fine, yada yada, I don't feel like talking about my boring life right now, and you probably don't want to hear it, plus I'm tired, so I'm going to bed. Wish I could stay there for a really long time.

I still want to go to Kenya.

19 days until Christmas

Church was good, saw some people. We sang some cool songs in worship, including "Come Thou Fount", once of my FAVORITES. In fact, I'll post the lyrics, just because I can:

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

I was lost in utter darkness 'til You came and rescued me
I was bound by all my sin when Your love came and set me free
Now my soul can sing a new song, now my heart has found a home
Now Your grace is always with me
And I'll never be alone

Come, Thou Fount, come, Thou King; Come, Thou precious Prince of Peace
Hear Your bride, to You we sing, come, Thou Fount of our blessing
Come, Thou Fount, come, Thou King; Come, Thou precious Prince of Peace
Hear Your bride, to You we sing, come, Thou Fount of our blessing

O, to grace, how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, Lord, take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Come, Thou Fount, come, Thou King; Come, Thou precious Prince of Peace
Hear Your bride, to You we sing, come, Thou Fount of our blessing
Come, Thou Fount, come, Thou King; Come, Thou precious Prince of Peace
Hear Your bride, to You we sing, come, Thou Fount of our blessing
====
All right, so the lyrics are different in some versions, but that's the version we sang. Also, during the sermon when the passage Isaiah 9 was read, I kept getting a song from Handel's Messiah stuck in my head: "For unto us a child is born, unto us, a son is given...." Yeah, I must be in a music mood.

Anyway, did a little homework (just photo, some Spanish, and a little review for Math), watched Angels and Demons (which was a nail-biter that can only be viewed once) then went to Tribe, where we had waffles for dinner and I was the ONLY student there. It was basically me and the four leaders. But it was still good.

Also, at Tribe, there was a very brief mention about a possible mission trip to Kenya. Initially, the Tribe was going to go to Alaska for a mission trip this summer, but as one of the missionaries there is suffering from a serious illness at the moment, I don't think that will happen. Now, it's probably not likely that a Kenya trip will happen soon either, as it was just a casual mention right now, but my mind is already going at 250 miles an hour anyway. I've been wanting to go on a mission trip to anywhere in Africa for a long time. Initially, I was planning on taking my last math class over the summer, but if this mission trip really happens, then I'm considering taking that math class at my four-year-school or summer of 2011 instead....

Well, tomorrow is the start of my LAST WEEK OF CLASSES! Both excited and dreading it, cause it means a lot of work....

Today, as you can probably tell, I want to go to Kenya! Oh, and Rome, too.

20 days Until Christmas!

Have you finished your shopping yet??? I *think* I have, I need to check. I definitely haven't wrapped most of them yet, though. Oh well, not worrying about it. I know I will probably only buy stuff for my immediate family, as I'm a little tight on funds.

Anyway, work was busy, though I still managed to find a few slow periods to attempt to do homework. And I found a few Astronomy books, including one that says "Astronomy for the Utterly Confused". That sounded up my alley. Not too much otherwise, ate Jimmy John's for dinner and watch a Harry Potter trailer. Already excited for Part 1 of the seventh movie to come out!!!

I think today, I want to go to either Costa Rica, Paris or China. And of course England. Very different places, I know.

Caution: Driveways Slippery When Icy

Yeah, today there's still snow on the ground.... Along with ice. Yuck. There's black sheet ice on our driveway, it looks like glass. In fact, I was walking to my car (just to test out how it would do with ice), and I slipped on some ice. My keys went left, my purse went right and I went down. If it didn't hurt, it would have been pretty comical; I'm pretty sure I looked like one of those cartoons where the character slips on a banana peel or something. No bruises yet, but I'm sure they'll come tomorrow.

Other than work today (and getting paid! I NEEDED money badly), I didn't do much. Which isn't good. I've got finals coming up, I should be studying like crazy. But I have no motivation right now. That's not good, but I am just so done with this semester.

I'm actually not sure where I want to go today. Probably Costa Rica. It's FREEZING here, I need to escape.

2 More Weeks Until Winter Break 2009....

So, I think I'm feeling okay now. Still not great, but I think getting a good amount of sleep helped. Although I'm very mad that my body requires 8-9 hours of sleep in order to be fully rested. Doesn't it know that this is not often feasible with college students??? Oh well.

Anyway, today we had a sub for Spanish. She was funny, if a bit crazy. ; ) Also, it snowed today. Like, flurries all day. I was very unhappy and had no idea why everyone was so happy about this. I hate snow! But then I realized that it would make a nice picture for photo class. So the situation changed. I also took pix at night and even though the camera and I had some disagreements, I think I got some good shots (hopefully my aperture was right!).

Well, better go to bed. I'd rather take a crazy travel adventure right now....

15 More Days Until Winter Break 2009....

So ready. Anyway, photo was good, math was okay, I'm always vague, aren't I? Well, I think that's because I post these at the end of the day, when I'm tired and don't feel like elaborating. Oh well.

We got our Christmas tree up! It looks nice, though it's tricky trying to find a way to keep the cats away from it.... Normally the tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving, but I think we were all busy at that time.

2 class periods and a final exam and I am DONE with Astronomy. So hard to sit through it tonight. Ugh, 2 more classes, 2 more classes. Um.... I want to go on a crazy European adventure. Just because. I don't know.

Anyway, I NEED to go to bed semi-early tonight. I think I'm starting to get sick. I'm not certain right now, but if I don't get adequate sleep tonight, then I will DEFINITELY get sick. So I am taking all precautions.

World AIDS Day 2009 and How is it December already?!

Seriously, where has this year gone? And how did I not remember World AIDS Day sooner? So sad.

Anyway, today was okay, I'm tired, work was good. Very short summary.

Also, remind me not to read religious debates on Facebook before going to bed. I don't even know why I do. I HATE debates of almost all kinds, even if it's something stupid like "Harry Potter movies are great" vs. "Harry Potter movies suck", or "Team Edward" vs. "Team Jacob" (well, okay, that debate doesn't bother me, cuz I don't like either one and it's so ridiculous anyway. For those who aren't aware, that's a Twilight thing. Google it). Debates with people denouncing God and just stamping on Christians (or anybody) who are trying to make their point just makes me sick. Ugh. You won't be seeing me as a debater anytime soon (another reason why I wonder how me and my one brother are related; he's on a debate team this year).

Well, enough about that rant, I should go to bed. 16 more days until break! And I want to go to.... Italy.

That pretty much describes my feelings right now. Yes, I am aware that they are not real words, therefore they are not grammatically correct. Yes, I did just randomly hammer my keyboard a bunch of times in frustration. Haven't you all done that?

Okay, okay, okay. For a Monday after break, it wasn't too bad. I was really tired, though, and I REALLY need to be more motivated. I honestly am not sure what else to say. End of Turkey Break 2009

Ugh, you have NO idea how much my heart breaks that Thanksgiving break is over. Okay, maybe you do. But it still needs emphasizing. Won't be long until Winter break. It seems like all throughout the school year I count down the days until break, and then break goes by way too fast, then the cycle repeats, causing life to fly by way too fast.... Yeah. I get strange thoughts like that.

Now.... I woke up at 5:30ish AM to get to church at 8am. Now on the Sundays that I have to work, there is usually a 50/50 chance of me going to 8am service. If I go, I am usually glad I did (even though I'm often one of the youngest people there ; ), but I'm somewhat sleep deprived. If I do not go, I feel well-rested, but I also feel guilty for not going. So there's always a disadvantage to everything. But I went today, and was quite happy I did, worship was good, sermon was good, got to say hi-and-goodbye to some people.

Work today was hectic. I guess people decided to dump all their books off before school starts up again. And the ILL's were a nightmare. Augh.... Thank God I get paid Friday! Woohoo!

Tribe was good, had some good food and interesting discussions about doubts. Afterwards, I did homework. It was boring.

I am sooooooooooooooo not looking forward to tomorrow. At all. Dang, it's cold. My laptop says it's 36º outside. Brrrr. Any chance I can move to Costa Rica?

But I still had a productive day! Despite sleeping in too late.... And this means that I didn't see anyone today (sad). Saw a movie, The Notebook which was interesting. I'm watching a Rick Steves video, which is good, but makes me want to go to France. What's new there....

Black Friday 2009

So, today was pretty good! Work was a nice shift, I got a lot done (plus, the extra money will help). Then I zipped straight from there to Panera, to meet four of my good friends. It was a pretty nice time, it was cool to catch up. Afterwards, I got some Christmas shopping done. Yeah. Even though I swore I was not going to do ANY Christmas shopping on Friday, I bought stuff at Barnes and Noble. I blame that on my friend (a finance and economics major), who said that if I shopped today, it would help the economy. Okay, so the wording was different, but still. And it wasn't the primary reason, I just had time to kill. So after shopping, I met a close friend at Caribou. Man, it's nice to meet people in shopping centers, even if driving around is an adventure. So that was nice, and I got to chill. That was the essence of my day. But it was a very good day.

Happy Thanksgiving 2009!

Happy Turkey Day! Hope everyone out there reading this had a fun time with family and food. My Thanksgiving was good, mom's side of the family came up, we had some good food (like stuffing-stuffing is delicious). Then later, almost everyone in my immediate family had a crazy long Gmail chat about absolutely nothing. While we're all in the same room. Yeah, did I mention that technology is ruining my family? Oh well, it was fun. And I want to go to Paris.

Well, I have a busy (but hopefully fun) day tomorrow. Later.

Turkey Break 2009: Day 1

Ahhhh.... I slept sooo late today.... It felt soooo good. I mostly chilled. And cleaned a bathroom (riveting, I know). Got my car's oil changed (it was good to know that my car is in good condition!). I battled through rain all day. I decided I do NOT like driving in the rain, ESPECIALLY at night. It's nuts. Oh well, I'd rather have rain than snow. And I met a friend at Go Roma. Very enjoyable, but I think I ate too much Fettucini Alfredo Roma. Hopefully I won't eat too much stuffing tomorrow.

All right, night all!

The Start of Turkey break 2009!!!

YES!!! And I don't have a ton of homework, which is so nice! I have some, but not a lot. My day was fine, except for the rain. I don't like the rain. Oh, and I really want to go to Europe. But in the meantime, I'm excited to see friends tomorrow. And sleeping in, THAT will be nice.

Turkey break.... One Day More....

Classes went well today. And it was also "Seeing People Day"; I saw my speech teacher, my Spanish teacher and two friends. Very nice. And, it seems like aside from some math problems and maybe a little reading, I have NO HOMEWORK OVER BREAK! Yippee.

Tomorrow, at 1:55pm, I will be FREE for THREE WHOLE DAYS!!! So excited.

Craziness of Cru Rowing

Today was nice, church was cool, I got to see a couple people who are home for Thanksgiving break, which was great. Did a tiny bit of homework, thank God my load was light this weekend and nothing's due tomorrow (well, my project is, but I finished that). I also have been asking people to get together over break, it's crazy how difficult it can be, though, trying to get together with so many people....

Also, on to the title explanation. I was at Bible study (which was good), and one of the guys mentioned that he's involved with Cru at his school. Now Cru is short for Campus Crusade for Christ, a Christian college ministry. People almost always call it Cru cuz the word "Crusade" denotes a pretty bad image in people's minds.... Anyway, one of the people thought that we were talking about Crew, like a rowing team or something. After the explanation, many tried to work in jokes about rowing with Cru and stuff.... I don't know, maybe you just had to be there, cause I'm not doing a great job explaining.

Well, better sign off. NOT looking forward to tomorrow.

The Joys of Watching High School Football at Work

Work was busy at first, then slow. Another 9-5 day. Anyway, part of it was cool, because at the library I work at, we have a flat-screen TV (sound turned off, of course). Now, one of the local high school football teams made it to semi-finals, and so many patrons and staff members were watching the game, it was kind of fun. It was a tense game; they were winning, then tied with the opposing team, they were winning again, then a the other team scored a touchdown (I think) in the LAST SIX MINUTES of the game, and then they lost, 21-17. Oh well.

Didn't do much else. Watched an episode of Paper Chase. Read. That's it.

Fridays=Lazy Days!

So, Fridays I have no classes. Which means I usually sleep until 8:45 or 9am (and trust me, that is LATE compared to the other days). It also means, unfortunately, that I have no motivation to do any homework at all. Thank goodness my homework load isn't that bad this weekend. And I worked 3-6, which was hectic. Someone dropped 25 CDs in the book drop five minutes before closing! Now people, if you use your library any time soon (which I hope you do), please do not follow this person's example. Staff members really don't appreciate it for the most part. At least I got paid today; yay money! But I also have to work tomorrow, 9-5, yick. Oh well, I do... something fun afterwards.

I got a miniscule amount of cleaning done. Miniscule. My room doesn't look horrible, but come on, when is a college student's room ever SPOTLESS?! Oh well. And I reread New Moon and make a mental list of all the things that are wrong with Edward and Bella's relationship (and Bella and Jacob's relationship too, for that matter). Weird, I like that series, and yet I enjoy picking on it. It's not that great, and yet I really want to see the movie. But I can't fathom why people have Twilight vs. Harry Potter wars; Harry wins, end of story.

Oh, I also found this travel website for students (for studying abroad, spring break, etc) and it had some nice deals! A one way ticket to London is less than $400! I could totally do that. Well, at least, it's more feasible than $850-$1,200 (not that I check or anything....). Now all I need is an opportunity to study in England and I'll be set.

Well, better go. Hopefully this was a better attempt at spicing up my entries. A little.

Happy Use Less Stuff Day 2009!

Too bad I don't find out about these holidays until the day is almost over. Oh well.... You can discover some holidays, too: http://www.brownielocks.com/month2.html

Anyway.... Spanish was okay. My photo project is done. Some of the pictures are very crappy, but the project's done. So some weight has been lifted. Now, I'm just stressing because I REALLY need to bring up my Spanish grade. I have a B now, but it NEEDS to be an A, because otherwise, at the rate my classes are going, I will get a semester GPA that's not good, and would therefore cost me money (with scholarships and other stuff). So yeah. But otherwise, the weekend's here! Party! Only 6 days until Turkey break!

CPK and good music

I SURVIVED MY PHOTO PRESENTATION! Yayness. Anyway, the rest of the day went fine. I listened to the CD "Sea of Faces" by Kutless, it was good, I forgot how much I liked that band. Me and most of my family also went to California Pizza Kitchen for dinner, it was quite excellent (try the California Club pizza, so good!). And, I'm listening to the new Casting Crowns CD, it's very good. So far, my fave songs are "Until the Whole World Hears", "If We've Ever Needed You", and "To Know You". Anyway, got some homework to do, so I need to sign off. I feel like Radar (the company clerk from M*A*S*H*) sometimes, always doing a daily report. Not much exciting about it. Oh well.

There's A Light At the End of This Tunnel

Well, I survived my Spanish presentation. And got a good grade on it (yes, my teacher is quick with those presentations). So now I'm not as stressed, but still have some pressure. I'm working non-stop on my photographer's presentation. I'm doing Robert Adams, landscapes of the American West. Hopefully it won't be too painful of a presentation. So, my stuff for the next few days before Thanksgiving break:

Due tomorrow:
Photographer's presentation

Due Thursday:
Rewrite of 3rd Spanish composition
Smaller Spanish homework

Due Monday:
Photo project
Math homework

Due Tuesday:
Spanish recording

And that's not including the time I need to spend in the photo lab to complete my project, or the time in my math instructor's office if I need help with some problems.

Well, now everyone in the world knows now what I needs to be completed before Turkey break. Only 8 more days.... Yes.... Oh, and 39 days until Urbana 09! Crazy, right?

Okay, I need to go, much studying. It's gonna be a late night....

Stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress stress STTTTTTTRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

In case you didn't know, I'm stressed. Mostly about my Spanish presentation (Q and A? Really? Shouldn't be necessary) and my photo presentation, but also about my photo project, and school in general. I know it'll all be fine in a few days, but in the meantime, this is a good way to channel my emotions.

But I guess today wasn't ALL bad. I got a couple prints done in photo, there was free pizza in the Multicultural center (so good), I saw someone from my speech class and I got an A on my math exam!!! Woohoo!!! But otherwise, stress overtook me.

Well, better battle that dragon.

Happy Bundt (Pan) Day 2009!

Okay, so I didn't really know that today was Bundt (Pan) Day until a few minutes ago, but I ran out of creative cells for the day, and so I decided to write down a weird holiday. And I thought it was funny. Today was also I Love to Write Day, which I should have observed, because I love to write (but NOT homework stuff. Ick).

Anyway, today was loooooooooooooooooooooooong. I oddly felt semi-rested, even after waking up at 5:45am. Church was good, had a missions emphasis, prayed for persecuted church and had some missionaries with us (including the ones I know from Costa Rica-YAY!). So it was good, but it felt like days ago. Work was awful, we could never really keep up with things. And my homework is okay. I just want it all to go away. So can't wait for Thanksgiving break. But first, I need to survive tomorrow. Then the day after that. Then the day after that. AHHHHARRRGHAUGGGHHH! That was my stressed out sound, by the way.

Leaf Raking!

So, today I went leaf raking as part of a service project with my church. We split up into groups and went to homes of people who can't rake their yard themselves (usually senior citizens) and we raked! My group did 3 houses, but 2 of those 3 had yards that were COVERED with leaves, and I mean covered. We had 10 bags full of leaves for one house, 20 bags for another house and around 30 for the last house. We could have had more for the last house, but after a while we discovered that the backyard backed up into the woods, so towards the end, we just raked the leaves onto a blue tarp, carried the tarp over, and dumped the leaves on the other side of the woods. A lot of work, but we all felt a sense of accomplishment and the people seemed to really appreciate it. Afterwards, we had Gino's East pizza for lunch-very good, if I say so myself. The rest of the day I spent napping, trying to do homework and actually doing homework.

Well, I need to get up early tomorrow. Should be interesting. I'm EXHAUSTED and will probably be sore soon.

Back from Trinity

So, I had a great visit. My hosts were very nice, we watched a movie and went to a worship thing, where we watched a video about the Invisible Children organization.

Then woke up, met with transfer counselor (ASTRONOMY WILL TRANSFER! YAY! So it won't be completely pointless), sat in on an English class, had chapel, meeting with a prof, lunch and tour. It was quite cool. Got a nice keychain. Got decent pictures. So it was really neat.

I'm quite tired though; air mattresses are not my preferred area of sleeping....

Trinity Day

Spanish was okay, today was okay, nothing new in school. Only 28 more class periods (not counting finals) until the end of the semester! Hard to believe.

Anyway, I'm visiting Trinity today. I leave around 5ish, so that's why I'm writing so early. I got my acceptance letter from them (finally, one week after the acceptance phone call). I also got an academic scholarship from them. So far, the scholarship tally is Trinity 1, Taylor 0. Not sure how I feel about this. Oh well.

Need to do some homework before, better sign off.

Tuesday Really Is Monday Part 2

Yeah.... That sums it up for me.

I've decided that I hate construction. I despise it. Can't wait for it to end. Spanish was average. Work was okay. Was in a weird mood for a little bit and I don't know why. I want to go to Ireland. 15 days until Thanksgiving break (yay!). 46 days until Urbana 09 and I'm REALLY getting excited for it! Um.... Not much else. Sorry.

Oh, I think I got a decent amount of sleep last night, so my "warning sore throat" is gone, but I don't want to take chances....

Creativity on Hold: 11/09/09

So, I don't feel like putting a funny title up tonight, but I didn't want to JUST put the date on. That would be lame.

Um.... 16 days till Thanksgiving break, that's what I keep trying to tell myself. 2 tests, 2 presentations, one project and one million little assignments until Turkey break. YES.

But in the meantime, Photo was fine, I got some decent negatives for a project due in two weeks. Math was okay, as usual. I actually feel pretty good about the test on Wednesday. Which is frightening. Lunch was good, had Chipotle leftovers. Astronomy was okay, the test was moved from Wednesday to next Monday (hallelujah!) and I discovered how excited college students get when the Magic School Bus is mentioned (no, a clip wasn't played in class, but someone brought it up for some reason). It was funny. Although, I did love that show when I was little.

Not much else, I NEED to go to bed earlier this time, as I'm getting a warning sore throat. I get those on occasions which is basically my body's way of telling me that if I don't get enough sleep soon (or something), I will get sick. So I want to at least be in bed BEFORE midnight. Of course, a couple times I have gone to bed before than, but my mind was whirring for a while....

Oh, I think it'd be cool to study in England sometime. Maybe grad school? Eh, doubt I can afford it.

47 days until Urbana 09!

Church: Both the US, and the Persecuted

Today, I had many adventures in driving. Hopefully, I won't have any more tomorrow. Church was good. Did some homework, though it's never as much as I plan to do. Oh well, stuff for tomorrow is done. But tomorrow, I need to have a detailed to-do list, broken down into small, manageable chunks, that way, it will hopefully be easier to get everything done. Wish me luck with that.

Tribe was good, saw some people, had Hamburgers and hot dogs for dinner. Instead of a normal Bible study, we talked about and prayed for the persecuted church. There are more Christians who are persecuted today than there have been at any point in history. In some countries, Christians can be arrested, tortured, or even killed for their faith. Totally different from U.S., where when we go to church, we never had to worry about the building being burned down or closed down or raided or anything. And many people in the US may have, like, 3 Bibles or more in their houses; in persecuted countries, it is an amazing joy to have just one Bible for the whole community. I knew all these facts before, but it's amazing how quickly I forgot them. Definitely an eye-opener of sorts. So quite a good night.

Not much else today.... 48 days until Urbana (right?). 17 until Turkey break!

Tiredness is Quite Evident in My Life

Work 9-5. It was steady, then hectic, then slow, then busy. At least I got some homework done. As always, though, I could always do more. Once, just once, I would like to NOT have anything to do at all. But alas, that doesn't happen. Oh well....

Better go to bed, I've been tired all day and I have a little bit of a headache.

I Never Seem to do Enough Homework

Seriously, my afternoon was so productive, and yet it's not enough! It's never enough....

My day was eh. Woke up too late, watched a movie and did math AT THE SAME TIME, worked 3-6, played Farmville, listened to music, attempted to find a good photographer and contemplated the universe. Okay, so I didn't really do the last part. Maybe I should tomorrow....

Yeah, sorry, I have nothing exciting to report. Only 50 days until Urbana 09. 19 days until Thanksgiving break. So can't wait.

Well, maybe I should turn off my computer soon; I do NOT want to be up at midnight tonight!

Cuidado, ¡hay una abeja en la salon de clase!

So, today started okay, woke up later than normal, but I guess I've been sleep-deprived.

Then Spanish class was very eventful at the beginning. We had a few presentations, and towards the end of Ted's presentation, Justine notices that there's a bee on Becca's shoulder. Naturally, half the class freaks out, it flies around then goes up to the ceiling. Ted finishes his presentation and as CJ gives his, the bee flies down, lands on his forehead, then flies around him. He walks around various areas in the classroom, but the bee kept following him (he was wearing a yellow shirt). So, our teacher tells CJ to come back and finish his presentation, and if the bee comes close, she'll get it. CJ comes up, bee flies by him and lands on the projection screen, our teacher grabs the textbook, whacks the bee, the bee falls down and our teacher steps on it. We applauded, and Señora held up the textbook and said "Another way to use your book". My thoughts exactly. Anyway, that's what's with my title (Look out, there's a bee in the classroom!"). The rest of Spanish was uneventful.

I went to a stamping party with my mom to make Christmas cards. I made 19, she made 20. I've never been more ashamed in my life. ; ) Just kidding. Normally I make more, but oh well. It was fun, regardless.

After that, watched a movie, and am contemplating going to bed real soon. Can't wait to sleep in, though homework will probably resemble a nightmare this weekend. How I'm going to manage my time, I have no idea....

Oh, and today was Guy Fawkes Day! Makes me want to go to England.... Again.

Saved from Sandwiches by the Panda

I did not have sandwiches today for lunch! Instead, my family took me out to Panda Express! It was delicious. Anyway, that explains the title.

Now, to the rest of my day. Photo was okay, did some spotting (which is when you use a brush or special pen marker and try to cover up dust spots), it wasn't my favorite thing to do. Math was okay, meeting with math teacher was fine. Astronomy was fine. I'm so ready for break right now. Found out what will/will not transfer to Taylor. It was nice.

Also, last night I got to chat with a friend via Gmail, which was quite wonderful. And I know I say "a friend" a lot; sometimes I mention names, sometimes I don't. I do know that some people do have some issues with having names on other peoples' blogs and stuff (even though I'd never post last names). It depends.

Okay, real tired, got to go.

Accepted: Part 2

Today was okay. Spanish was fine, I kept having issues, I always embarrass myself big time in that class. Oh well, only 10 more class periods, then the final. Wow, that sounds weird. I got an email from Urbana today and I'm suddenly even more excited; 53 days! That sounds weird, too.

Oh, and I got a voicemail message saying I've been accepted to Trinity International University. I should be really excited about this, but... I'm not. I'm not sure why. Maybe part of it is, after my first acceptance letter, the second one is not quite as important? Well, okay, it is important, but not as big of a deal, I guess. Also, Trinity is my second choice, not my first, however, it has a MUCH better reputation of giving good financial aid packages than Taylor. So now my chances of going to Taylor are slim right now. I know everything will work out somehow if I'm meant to be at Taylor, but I do need to be realistic. I know I said I'd be happy at either college, but.... Well, I'd like to get away. I'm kind of sick of this area. I don't know. I'm so looking forward to a year from now when I'll look at this post and laugh at my former self for not seeing God's plan. But I'm not at that point yet, so.... Meh.

Well, I better finish my homework and wrap stuff up and try to wind down a little. It may be another midnight night....

Why Can't My Mind Focus On This Week?

I mean, seriously, my mind has already jumped to Thanksgiving break, past Thanksgiving break, onto Christmas break! It's so hard to concentrate on anything else.

Anyway, photo was okay. Assignment was due, overall fine. There were some constructive criticisms and one picture my professor thought looked really good (even saying it was a good example of what a good picture would look like). But of course, do I dwell on compliments like that when I look back? Nope, I mostly think about the criticisms. I'm such a perfectionist. At least I remember compliments in math class. Speaking of math, I got a perfect score on my math quiz! Okay, so it was only worth 10 points and almost everyone in the class got a perfect score, but it's still kinda cool.

I saw MK at school, it was her birthday today so I got to give her a birthday hug. Yes, I recognize that these events are not in chronological order, but I'm too tired to care right now. It will remain a mystery forever.

Astro was okay, got to go outside, neat but cold. At least we're not in Alaska; it's 10 degrees up there!

Um.... Over the course of the day I finally watched all of "Grease". I need to see it again with someone who appreciates it and can give me some insight, because it really bugged me. I totally wanted to slap Danny Zuko in the face and tell him to grow up (though there's no denying that John Travolta is an amazing dancer) and I wanted to tell Sandy that she is already cute and that there is no need to dress or act like a tramp (a very polite way of saying what my impression of her clothes at the end of the film was). *sigh* I am a strange human being.

Well, I'm getting close to midnight, so I better sign off. Later, all. Can't wait for this semester to be over....

Daylight Savings Time Ends; Yay!

Yes, despite the fact that my internal clock is all messed up, I was very happy to get my extra hour of sleep! My body thinks it's midnight now, but it's actually 11:08pm, so ha! Speaking of which, I was asleep (or trying to sleep) at midnight! Yay! So hopefully I can go to bed early. Yes, it's sad when 11:30 pm is considered going to bed "early".

Anyway, I did not wake up early enough for church (I know, shameful). I went to work, which was really hectic. I was tired and cranky all day and sometimes it was hard not to strangle people. Bible study was good, lovesick couples are not good. I don't why they bug me so much. Married couples don't bother me for the most part, just dating couples. Okay, so not EVERY dating couple; there have actually been a few couples that are actually normal and have an actual life and hang out with friends besides their partner (shocker, I know). Those are the dating couples I like. The ones that make me want to gag are the ones that are practically attached to the hip and give disgusting goo-goo eyes and won't stop the PDA.... Unfortunately, that group makes up a large percentage of the couples that I see. And being the cynical person sometimes, I get this feeling (and these days I'm usually right) that most likely those couples who are all lovey-dovey and gooey and gross will eventually break up and all those feelings, time, etc will have all be wasted. And yet, despite all that disgusting stuff, I really really really want a boyfriend. *sigh* Only not the way I describe. Please, to all who know me, if you see me doing any of the weird stuff I described above with any guy-HIT ME HARD. All right, enough about the relationship rant. That's just been a touchy topic for me lately.

I got some homework done, didn't watch Grease yet, maybe tomorrow in between classes. Right now I NEED to hit the sack. Adios.

Halloween 2009

Oh random note about yesterday: My mom made me get new pajama bottoms and boots. Yes, I said "made me". I am quite different from normal girls in several ways. One of these ways is that I don't really enjoy clothes shopping. Sometimes (especially when I'm on a trip) it's okay, but I could honestly find better things to do with my time. And shoe shopping is the absolute worst. I HATE shoe shopping. Just hate it. I think I have way too many shoes as it is (well, in my opinion). Oh well, at least my boots will be functional when it shoes and my pj bottoms are semi-cute.

Enough about that. Happy Halloween! I slept late again. Played some Farmville.... Answered door for trick or treaters.... Watched Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.... Looked at England travel books and tried to figure out how I would get there.... That was about it.

Tomorrow, I'll go to church if I get up early enough, do some homework, go to work, go to Bible study, do more homework like crazy, maybe watch Grease, go to bed.

I should wrap up quickly. There's this friend I've been seeing lately. His name is "Midnight". I've been seeing him more often this semester, and last night was the fifth night in a row that I saw him. It can be fun, especially since apparently I can sort of function around then, but then the morning after the "fun" isn't great, especially when you have class. So I am going to try to make sure I don't see this "dear friend" tonight, because I need *some* responsible night hours of sorts.

(Yeah, for those who don't catch on, basically I've been going to sleep past midnight lately, and I'm determined not to do so tonight. So Good night).

Happy Haunted Refrigerator Night 2009!

Yeah.... Apparently tonight is Haunted Refrigerator Night. And National Candy Corn Day. And Frankenstein Friday. I'm not making this up. Just Google "Weird Holidays", and you'll find a funny list.

Anyway, I slept in too late again (man, this is a pattern). Went to the photo lab and actually got some decent negatives. Ran some errands, finished a book, watch a movie. Why do I wait until 11:30 to post when I'm tired and I don't remember anything fun? Ah well.

Oh, remember when I said that we talked about white dwarf stars in Astronomy? Well, here's the White Dwarf!:

Personally, I don't want to mess with this guy! I found it off the Internet (from another blog, I think), and was excited cuz this was the very frightening dwarf that was in the PowerPoint for Astronomy. And now I'm not sure what else to say.

Oh yeah: I REALLY want to go to England. And 57 days until Urbana 09.

PS. Here's a funny image, if you don't like hardcore dwarves:

Thursdays Can be Terrific and/or Terrible

This one was terrific. Why? Because it's the weekend! Well, for me. Yay for no classes on Fridays!

But I wasn't feeling great all morning/afternoon. Oh well, I'm better now. Spanish was okay. I played a Harry Potter computer game for the first time in several years. It was FUN! Oh, geekiness, how I miss you. I'm too tired to write much more.

Well, Wednesdays are Weird

I woke up later than usual.... Again. I'm so lazy. Photo was good, I got some decent prints for my assignment on Monday, but I think I'll still go to the photo lab on Friday anyway. Went to math teacher's office for clarification and help, saw MK (nickname for one of my close friends, I don't really know why that was her nickname, it makes no sense), then had math. I discovered that I can handle math for 40 mins before I get really tired and have to focus more. In case anyone's wondering, the average time I spend with my math teacher is around 10-15 mins, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on how many questions I struggle with. Then drove home, which wasn't great (I have grown to dislike a particular road that I have to take to school.... But the other roads are worse!). Did some homework, made it to Level 20 of Farmville, had dinner and Astronomy, where we learned mostly about white dwarves. Um, the star white dwarves, not actual dwarves (that would be cooler). Though my teacher did post a picture of one. Even though he's not very good at teaching to non-science-y people, at least he has a sense of humor.

Well, better go, still have some work that I want to do before bed. Wow, my entries need some spice to them....

59 days until Urbana 09!

On Second Thought, Tuesdays Can Be Worse....

I woke up later than intended, which threw me off a bit and made me feel rushed. I only like guilt-free sleeping in and this wasn't guilt-free sleeping in. I went to school, things were starting to get better, cuz there was free Asian food (orange chicken and eggrolls), and I found out my enrollment date for next semester. Then I had Spanish. The class was no more difficult than normal, but well, I'd rather not talk about it. Not today. I will later. But I just feel like an absolute failure. I'm so bad at Spanish. Why did I kid myself into thinking that I could possibly minor in Spanish? Kiss that thought goodbye (besides, Intercultural Studies looks cooler, anyway).

Work was okay, so glad it was my last day of counting every single inter-library loan item (that's always annoying, we had more than 300 items today). And... not much else. Today wasn't fun.

But I will end on a better note; I found out that one class I'm hoping to take is online and another is a teleweb course (that's basically where tests and stuff are online, but you get videos of lectures and stuff to watch). So that means, if all goes well, I will only have classes Monday and Wednesday next semester!!! I am pretty happy about that, considering this semester has been awful schedule wise.

Oh and 60 days (exactly 2 months) until URBANA 09!

Mondays Should Not Exist

Yeah.... I don't like them.... Though today wasn't bad.

Had photo. We didn't go to the darkroom, we watched a movie about Sally Mann. Some of her stuff was so cool, but others were weird (like decomposing dead bodies, yuck). Lunch was okay, talked to a friend, then went to my math teacher's office to go over some problems. I think I'm practically going to live there this semester (okay, not really, but I should probably go there a lot, I NEED to do well on the next test!). Math was fine, I'm always veeerrry tired in that class, though. After that I went home (it was raining, of course), and... did some homework. Went to Astronomy and got my test back. Let's just say I'm so glad my teacher uses the curve, because I had a bad score without the curve, but with it I got a high C! Yes, that is an accomplishment. My next goal is to get to at least a B on the next test (so far the Astro review everyday thing is going well.... We'll see how I do with other study methods).

61 days till the Urbana conference, 30 until my Thanksgiving break. Can't come soon enough.

Personality Type: 4 and 2

Um, church was cool, cold weather is not. I chilled this after noon, did a little homework (really, I did!), and watched a couple movies. Went to Bible study (yay waffles), where we took a very interesting personality test (I can't remember why, maybe for fun?). It was pretty hard, and since it was shorter and free it wasn't as accurate as the longer version that costs money, but it's still pretty cool. I got number 4 (The Individualist, or Romantic for another version) for my highest score and number 2 (the Helper) for my second one. It was interesting and hysterical to read the "descriptions". So that was cool. But driving home in the pouring rain is not cool. And the fact that it's Monday tomorrow is DEFINITELY not cool. Oh well.

Oh here are the links, if anyone's interested: http://www.9types.com/

I'M ACCEPTED!

So, today was a very interesting roller coaster. I will explain.

I woke up, tired and cold (I went to bed 5 mins before midnight) and skunk smell was very strong. Oh yeah, forgot to mention. A skunk died in front of our driveway, so everywhere outside our house smelled awful (and we could smell it inside if someone had the window open). Someone removed it later, but still, ew.

I went to work, which was not a good shift. It was non-stop busyness and chaos, and I swear, people brought dump trucks of books and DVDs, I was tired, cranky, and I really wanted to strangle patrons (don't worry, I didn't). Then, when work was over (it felt like forever), I realized my car smelt like skunk. Because the whole air was filled with the scent by my house when I walked out to my car, I didn't notice the smell going TO work, but after work I definitely smelt it on my poor car. I unrolled all the windows to see if that would help, and it kind of did; that's pretty bad, because it was in the 50's today. Well, at least the sun was out (it was rainy when I drove to work). So with all that lovely stuff, I wasn't sure how on earth my mood would change today. It changed.

Which brings me to the title of this post. When I got home, Mom said I had some good mail, which is always exciting, because I never get mail (except for bills or bank statements or advertisements; yuck). I got into my room and there were two pieces of mail: One from my church, and one from Taylor University. The Taylor envelope was huge, I flipped it over and it had all sorts of words that I couldn't really figure out at the time, but I thought they'd be related to "the Taylor tradition" and all that. On the envelope flap had one word, in small letters: Congratulations. I was excited once I realized the envelope was from Taylor, but by that time I got even more excited. I ripped open the envelope, took our the letter, and read the first lines:
"Dear Ashley:, Congratulations! It is my special privilege to announce that you have been accepted for admission to Taylor University for the 2010 fall term."

....

Have you realized it yet?

....

Has it sunk in yet?

....

I HAVE BEEN OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED INTO TAYLOR UNIVERSITY!!!

This is reeeeally exciting. I still need to wait until April (when all financial aid stuff comes in) before I make a final decision, but the fact that I got into my top school is very exciting! And I'm so excited about this that, as a result, my grammar is suffering! Why do I say this? Well, I am pretty sure that my Facebook status is grammatically incorrect and I had the hardest time spelling "university" when I sent a text to one of my close friends. Oh well. But I'm really happy that things turned out well so far!!!

Oh, and for those who may be wondering about the thing from my church, it was a reimbursement check (for Urbana), so basically, my Urbana cost is fully covered except for the housing (well, that and food and souvenirs, but those are typically separate from cost trips anyway). And also, my dad was nice enough to take my car to the car wash, so my car shouldn't be stinky anymore!

So yeah, today was bad, but it ended really great!

63 days till Urbana!

Weekend!: October 23, 2009

I love having three day weekends. Well, I'm writing this now to avoid the possibility of going to bed past midnight (like I had the past two days; not good when you have morning classes or a morning shift at work).

I woke up today LATE, like 9:35am-ish. I always seem to do that, because it's one of the few days that I can really sleep in. Anyway, I skimmed my Astronomy book, because I want to get in the habit of reading my Astronomy book every day, even if it's just skimming. We'll see how that goes. Other than that, I didn't do much else, but I did clean my room! Okay, so I only picked up a few papers/books, but I think it looks better! I worked today too, that was a long, busy shift; WHY does a 3 hour long shift feel longer than an 8 hour long shift? So weird.

Um.... Not much else to report. Oh, 64 days until Urbana! I don't know if anyone's interested, but here's a link, because I realize a large number of people have no clue what the Urbana conference is: http://www.urbana09.org/home.main.cfm

Thursday: Start of the Weekend!

Well, Monday's finally over and the weekend has begun! Yes, that sounds very odd.

I think my Spanish midterm was okay. We'll soon find out how I did. But I found out that I got a 46 out of 50 on my last project! So, unless I totally bomb the midterm, I'm getting an A in Spanish! Yay! At least I'm getting an A in SOMETHING. Well, okay, so I'm probably getting an A in Photo too, it's just hard to tell because the projects are basically pass/fail. But I DON'T have an A in Astronomy or Math. I need to figure out how to get a better grade (even though my math class is remedial and doesn't factor into my GPA, I still want and need to do well!). I'll figure something out.

Chilled a bit, read Harry Potter. Later, me and the fam packed some meals to go out to Haiti. It was cool. I'm tired, good night.

Wednesday: Monday, Part 3

It case no one noticed, Monday had been extended to three days this week. The calendars are lying! Yeah, I'll explain.

Today began iffy, was pretty good in the middle, then ended iffy. So today I woke up later than planned, but no biggie. I got most everything done. Then I was trying to take a ton of random pix to use up my roll of film so that I can develop it today, but my camera wasn't cooperating as much as I would've liked it to, so I left the house running late (okay, so "running late" is actually 8:09 instead of 8am, but when you're a commuter student and timing-and traffic-is everything, it can be a big difference). Made it to school early, developed roll of film and I think I have some good, or at least decent, images. The symmetry pictures are so much more difficult to take than the asymmetrical pix (those I'm fairly good at). Then at school there was free pizza! It was delicious and the only bad thing was that we could only take one slice-and our hands were stamped so that the volunteers knew we already had a slice. Makes sense, though. After that, I met up with my math teacher. Something tells me I'm going to be doing that a lot lately. At least she was very helpful, which makes a huge difference. Math class was fine.

So, studied a little for Astronomy, then I had my Astronomy test, which I don't think went well. I told people that it was awful, and a lot of it was, though there were actually a couple questions I'm pretty sure I got right. So maybe it wasn't awful. I just don't want to get my hopes high. I think my bad mood was also contributed by the fact that a couple of classmates whom I sit next to and sometimes talk to have been leaving me out. Like, they're good friends and talk to each other a lot, and it's really difficult whenever I try to get into the conversation. I don't know why this bothers me. Maybe that's because it's been happening with a lot of my groups of friends, and I'm getting very fed up. I don't know, maybe I'm being oversensitive.

And now I'm attempting to study for my Spanish midterm. I really don't think it'll be too difficult (a good part of what will be on the test has already been drilled into my brain), I just want to do very well to ensure that I get an A in this class.

Oh, I should probably go to bed. I've been up waaay too late. And I've written waaay too much. But I think writing is my form of therapy. At least it's cheaper than paying for therapy. ; ) Anyway, good night all.

66 days until Urbana!

Tuesday: Monday, Part 2

Title says it all. At least for me, Tuesday feels like a Monday. Ick.

Well, Spanish was fine. Things are crazy, though. At school there was tomato soup and fudge puppies. In case anyone is wondering, fudge puppies are waffle sticks on a stick (best way I can describe them) dipped in chocolate and topped with whipped cream and whatever candy toppings you want! Messy but very delicious!

Work was fine. It was kind of tough to go back though, after having the weekend off.

I'm getting nervous for my school applications right now, even though I know I won't hear anything until beginning of November, I'm still worried. Probably cuz a few of my friends are already accepted to schools (and basically already know that's where they'll go, it seems). Also, one of my friends just got accepted to a Bible school in England! Yes, I am jealous. Maybe that'll be a possibility for grad school? I saw that King's College London has a MA in Shakespeare Studies. After I get my MLS that could be somewhat of a possibility....

Okay, better go to sleep. Good night.

Oh yeah: 67 DAYS UNTIL URBANA 09!

Mondays are.... Mondays.

Yeah, I am VERY tired right now. Very.

Photo was fine, passed my project, but I have another due in a week! Luckily, I have film now and a couple negatives already that could work. It's just more stress. Math was okay.

Then I had dinner with a friend who's home for fall break. I was happy. Then Astronomy was fine. Too tired to write much more. 68 days till Urbana.

Museo del Arte Mexicana

All right I KNOW I got that title wrong. It's supposed to say "Museum of Mexican Art". Cuz that's where I was all day in order to earn extra credit points. Yay! It was pretty interesting, had a cool exhibit on Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Very neat, I'm so tired though. I don't know how much I'll write tomorrow. Good night.

Day 2 of Blissful Sleeping In This Week

Only I'll have to get up early tomorrow. Gr. But I did this to myself, so no complaining. And I got two days to sleep in instead of one, so I should be very very very grateful.

I was very lazy and unmotivated. I did some homework, but definitely could have done more (but then again, that's every day). Went to fam's church. Had Baked Potato soup from Panera, which was amazing for a cold day like today (it's currently 47 degrees! 47! And some people think that's GOOD! I think not). Not much else.

70 days until the Urbana Missions Conference! Yes, I'm already counting down....

Photos, Chilly Weather and a Wii Bit of Magic

I got to sleep in! I was happy, but... semi-lazy. I wasn't completely lazy, because I had to clean one of the bathrooms today. Enthralling, I know. Oh well.

Went to photo lab today because of a project due Monday. It took me over 2 hours to print 8 pictures. Amazing how time consuming it can be. But it's still fun.

Today was cold. Very cold. 40's cold-can't stand it. I am planning on moving to Costa Rica, California, Arizona or Florida sometime after college; just so you all know. Brrrr.

After dinner, I played the sixth Harry Potter game on the Wii that I got from the library. It was really fun, though sometimes my arm got so tired. Who needs to go to the gym when you have a Wii?

Hm, I am very cold. This will be a long, bitter winter.

I'm Urbana-Bound!

So, it's official! I've registered, got roommates, I'M GOING TO THE URBANA MISSIONS CONFERENCE 2009!!! I'm getting way more excited, though it's still pretty surreal. Partly because only two days ago I was so sure that I wouldn't be able to go. And now I'm going, I'm signed, sealed, delivered (sort of). So cool.

Also, I got notification from my young adult pastor that my recommendations are in for Taylor and Trinity! So, unless the mail has messed up, everything is in for those colleges!!! So hopefully they'll make a decision soon.

Okay, should probably go on to the rest of my day. I'm feeling better than I was yesterday. Not 100%, but still WAY better. I don't know what that was last night, but I'm glad it's over. Spanish was good, didn't have as much difficulties, but it was still hard. I played around a bit for the rest of the day, including helping Kevin with a Harry Potter computer game.

Well, I get to SLEEP IN TOMORROW! That's very rare these days. Why does my body need 9 hours of sleep? Doesn't it know that I am a college student? Oh well.

A Day of Rejoicing and Violent Hiccups

So.... God has proven Himself to be faithful once more.... Because....

I'M GOING TO URBANA 09!

Everything worked out, I have someone to room with, all I need to do right now is register tomorrow! Yay!

Now, the bad part of today. I had VIOLENT hiccups on and off. Like, my upper back is sore because of them. And I also got... is it possible to get "complications" from hiccups? If so, then that's what happened. I can't explain what it was, but I felt like crap all throughout Astronomy. Yuck. Looking forward to tomorrow, when they will be gone.

The rest of the day was fine. Photo quiz was okay, math test was okay, saw a friend, not much else.

Neither a Day of Rejoicing Nor A Day of Selfish Sobbing

Okay, so I did selfishly sob a *little bit* in the morning; I have a tendency to be emotional, okay??? Hm, I say "okay". For an aspiring English major, I don't have a very large vocabulary.

Anyway, the whole Urbana situation looked completely hopeless, so I was in a funk for a big portion of the day, until around 3:30, when I got a glimmer of hope. Nothing is certain, it may not come through, but I'm still going to cling on to it like crazy. Oh, and pray. That's probably important. I should fine out either way for sure tomorrow.

Had my Spanish recording together, with my partner. I think it went okay. Hopefully it will be fine grade wise. The rest of Spanish was okay, though I had the worst luck because the teacher called on me for the one thing I did not have an answer for. Don't you hate when that happens? Any other question, I probably would've been all right, pero para este pregunta, no tuve nada. Oh well, it happens.

Work was fine, slow in the last hour. And I don't know why, but I became pretty grateful that I have such a secure job (even though it can be so busy that it drives me bonkers). Well, I guess that's good. I can't believe my mood swings, though. I get so negative then later happy fairly quickly. Some days I swear I'm bipolar - even though I know realistically that I'm not, I do get frustrated by them. It's all probably part of being a teenager. *sigh* Can't wait until I'm 20.

Complete Madness, Stress and Tiredness

That seems to be my life these days, doesn't it?

Anyway, woke up semi-early, very stressed. The update on Urbana is that God is going to have to pull a major miracle in order for me to go. I don't know whether to give up and mope or trust that he will provide a miracle or better plan (but personally, that "better plan" should NOT be lounging at home; I'll go crazy if I have to stay home when I could've gone somewhere). I haven't wanted to go somewhere this badly in a long time, but I need someone, just ONE PERSON to room with. Everything else should be okay, but this one issue is so crucial to whether I can go and I'm running out of time! Argh....

Photo was okay, got decent negatives. Math was okay, almost fell asleep again. I need to work on this sleep issue, my bones are so weary, it's not good. I called a friend whom I have not spoken to in a long time, and it was very good, very nice to catch up, and found out that two of their siblings ran the marathon on Sunday! Pretty cool.

Astro was okay, had trouble staying awake, yet I managed decent notes and completed the lab activity (amazingly).

Well, I better go to bed (finally!). Tomorrow will be a day of utter rejoicing or utter selfish sobbing. I'll let you know which one it is.

Busyness, Tiredness, Craziness....

That's the life of a college student.

Dad ran the marathon today. He wasn't pleased with his time (which I don't know what it is), but he finished. I got a fair amount of homework done, worked, went to Tribe. All is good. Well, not really. I'm kind of frustrated with people who don't reply. I'll need to follow up on stuff tomorrow.

First Day of Frost....

Yep, we had frost this morning. YUCK. It disappeared once it was more sunny, but it took a while to scrape the frost off my car. Work was fine, I got a lot done (including homework). Had pizza. Watched "Blues Brothers". It was stupid, but funny. I want to go to Ireland and England. Not much else to say.

You Know You're a College Student When....

.... You sleep for 9 hours and you're STILL tired. Oh well.

Spanish homework is done. I've decided that when Christmas break comes around, I'll play the first three Harry Potter computer games, just for old times sake. Work was fine, busy, though. I saw a rainbow and a beautiful sunset driving home (which was nice, it's been raining on and off all week, it seems). Then.... I don't know what else I did. But I'm not feeling quite as overwhelmed anymore. But, I work tomorrow... and the day after.... At least I get money!

Also, I have very weird feelings about this trip I want to take. Part of me says it's hopeless, there's no way I can go, another part says that God will find a way. Argh.... I'll know for sure in 4 days regardless. Ugh. Praying like mad.

Craziness: Over, or Just Beginning?

I survived Spanish. Yay! So afterwards I enjoyed my day with... homework, and also Facebook and watching "Freedom Writers". Sometimes those types of movies make me want to write again. I've been writing this and that whenever I can, and it's very therapeutic. No, nothing will get published, I doubt anything will get published ever, except maybe a short story or poem in a school newsletter or something. I don't know. Writing competition is fierce. Why is it that everything I want to do either doesn't pay much, doesn't offer travel opportunities or requires the absolute best? Or all three? Argh.... I'm looking forward to ten years from now, when I can look at this post and laugh at my angst, but for now.... Gr.

Oh wow, lost my train of thought. Should probably share what's with my status. Well, I had a rough, crazy week, but that's over. However, my homework load is brutal. Okay, maybe it only seems brutal because I'm working 16 hours over the next few days. I don't know. At least I have no homework for Astronomy!!! "Wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles...." Alright, I'll stop. I should probably read a ton for Astronomy, though, just in case.

I better hit the sack. Good-night.

Sometimes, You Just Know a Week is Going to be Rough

I woke up an hour late. Eeeek! I was very rushed. Photo was fine, it was mostly a lecture. Lunch was mediocre. Math was okay. The only two highlights at school. One was receiving a Bible verse via text message from a friend who's away at school. The other was seeing a friend at school twice! Normally, because of our schedules, I'd only see her once or not at all.

Astronomy was fine, watched a movie. I've decided that if you didn't have to get graded or anything, then this would be a very interesting class. But since you do get graded and you're trying to cram info into your brain, then it's not so interesting. I'm no longer convinced that I'm going to die tomorrow. But I'm still very stressed and freaked.

Well, I will probably stay up semi-late. Oh, for the days when I could just sleep in. Could someone please tell me why God didn't wire our bodies to only be able to function on four hours of sleep? That would make my life so much better at times.....

¿Porque es mi vida loca?

That was my attempt at "Why is my life crazy?". I couldn't think of anything else to say.

School was school. Spanish was okay, had to type our second report (out of a total of 4) in the Language Lab, and it was actually pretty easy. Writing is more my strength than speaking (in either language). The rest of the class was rough. I'm so bad at Spanish. Went home, did homework, had chili, then went to work. Work was steady, then very slow in the last hour (I got to do some homework!). Not much else. I'm pretty stressed right now. I'm going to die on Thursday. Yeah, I know, melodramatic. Whatever.

Monday, Monday, Monday-10/05/09

I'm still having trouble writing down October on today's date. So weird.

Anyway, even by Monday standards, today wasn't great. I finished my photo project and passed, but barely, in my opinion. Math was okay. Lunch was mediocre. But after photo, I became DEAD tired, I was literally a zombie and I actually tried to take a nap in the library. I'm amazed I stayed awake for all of Math. When I got home, I crashed and actually took a semi-nap, which helped a little, but that also added to the stress of homework. Ugh. Astronomy was okay, got a C on my test. Not great, but at least I'm not failing. And we actually went outside tonight! It was quite neat.

Um... I need to complete homework. I am sooooooooooo stressed about a Spanish project on Thursday. I'm stressed in general.

Working isn't Fun with Sore Muscles

Work was long and busy. And what's worse, I think I slept on my right shoulder funny, so my shoulder has been hurting all throughout work. It was very annoying, and it's much more irritating when those bins fill up when you have a sore shoulder. Oh well, at least it's better now. When I got home, I ate dinner, and watched the first two Harry Potter movies. Oh, and actually did math homework! I want to go to Europe. Right now.

Panera and Photos

I actually got a fair amount of sleep! Though last night I went to bed at 11:35pm.

I met a one of my youth leaders for Panera today. It was quite wonderful. Then I spent 3 hours in the darkroom developing film and making prints. So my day was very productive, yet it could have been more productive. Oh well. My shoulder hurts for some reason. Work tomorrow.

How Did it Get to Be October 2009 Already?!

Seriously, where did September go??? I have no idea. Oh, and I went to bed around 11:45pm last night, earlier than I had been! Yeah, random.

Spanish was fine. Hard, but fine. I missed my turn on the way home, but I found a place to turn around and made it home fine. Me and my mom went stamping with some friends, which was fun. My mom stamped a couple cards, I stamped 20. Yeah, I'm crazy. Didn't do much else (which isn't good), I need to be more productive. We watched "Hairspray" tonight, which was actually really good third time around! I better sign off, I'm exhausted, for some reason.

Why Do I Live in the Midwest?

Okay, so today wasn't AS cold, but I'm still planning on moving to Florida, California, Arizona or Costa Rica when I graduate (whichever one is cheaper....).

Photo was okay, I still don't think I have great pics, but I'm not sure whether I should develop more film or just work with what I have. Either way, I need to figure out when I'll be in the photo lab. Math was okay. I had an Astronomy test-it was evil, I probably failed. Um, I saw a friend today at school. Yay! And.... Not much else. Except my cough and runny nose refuses to go away, yuck.

Well, I should go to bed early for once (I have been going to bed around midnight-like I said, can't really sleep when I'm sick, even though I desperately need to).

Why do the Words "Homework" and "Procrastination" Seem to Go Together?

.... Because that's what happens when you're a college student! Yeah.... I have homework to do, and of course I want to do anything but that. It's actually sort of entertaining the ways my brain can procrastinate. But I need to focus, my problems aren't bad now, but they will be later.... Maybe I'll go hang out in libraries and bookstores more often.... After all, I've heard it's typically a bad idea to study in your dorm room, why can't that rule apply to bedrooms, too? Oh well, I'll figure something out.

I've been feeling okay. I have a really bad cough-my throat is raw because of it. Nose runs on occasion. It's very attractive (yeah, right). Spanish was fine. Work was fine. Driving around was fine. I should probably attempt to do homework for once and maybe go to bed "early"! We'll see. If only my body could run on 4 hours of sleep, things would be easier.

Remember When I Used to Be Creative?

Hey all, so I've decided my titles have been boring for so long. I'm going to attempt to spice them up a little.

First of all, it's FREEZING here. Okay, so my definition of freezing is 58 degrees, but still. My mom thinks this weather is wonderful. Ri-ight. Um, my mom took the boys to an apple orchard (I think) while I was at school. They brought back apple cider doughnuts, which was cool. But anyway, back to the cold weather. Because it was so cold, I had extreme difficulty getting up. Okay, it's always hard for me to get up, but when it's cold, that makes it even harder because all I want to do is stay in bed.

Photo was okay, made a print, which was dark and blurry. I underexposed a LOT of my images, though, I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong. Hopefully I can go to the lab more this week-I have a project due one week from today!!!

Math was fine. So far, for math, things are good, but there are these two really catty, immature, bratty girls who must be just out of high school and they CAN'T STOP TALKING IN CLASS. They don't talk very loud, but I'm amazed my teacher hasn't said anything (though she did give them a "look" a couple times). Every class I really want to go up to them, smack them both and tell them to shut up and grow up. But I wouldn't really do that, not at all. Guess I better let the teacher deal with them eventually.... Darn. Doesn't anyone at my school (well, that's aged 18-25, that is) realize that they are legal adults, therefore they should at least TRY to ACT like adults? I don't know. It used to take a lot to get under my skin, but I've been so sick of the human race these days.

Went home, did a little homework, vacuumed my rug, played Farmville, browsed Facebook in general.

Astronomy was fine. Had an interesting lab for once. I'm a little nervous about the test on Wednesday, though.

Now, I'll probably attempt a little homework. Maybe.
