Break 09, Day 5: Laziness

So, I chilled a lot today. It felt good, but I'm starting to feel the pressure to stop procrastinating and relaxing and actually get some homework done. So tomorrow, I plan to do just that. I can't believe tomorrow will be April. This semester is going by very quickly. Thank heavens. Anyway, I was very lazy today, until I went to work, which went by surprisingly quickly. Bought some stuff on iTunes. Things are good so far.

Break 09, Day 4: Nothingness Can be Cool

I did almost nothing today. It felt pretty good, though I also felt lazy. I hoped to get some homework done, and I got a little bit done but not much. And I also cleaned my room, but again it's not much. Got new tennis shoes. Today was in the 30s and 40s. Not much else. Oh, and I want to travel.

Break '09, Day 3: White Stuff and Power Outages

So, there was all this white stuff on the ground today. Not cool. It made me mad. Plus, the power went out, which was very inconvenient. Thankfully it's back on again, but it has just been a LONG day, and has felt like morning for most of it. Very complicated. Also, most of this evil white stuff is going away (yes, I refuse to say THE word), but right now I am slightly mad at people who are in California, Florida, South Carolina, Costa Rica, and any other warm states or countries. Why? Because even the nicest people just HAVE to rub in the fact that they're not in Illinois.

Well, hopefully tomorrow I can sleep in and get some work done....

Spring Break 09, Day 2: Work and Cotton Balls

Work was crazy busy today. I was so tired afterwards. Not much else.

Oh, today somebody took a ton of cold, wet cotton balls (or maybe soaked packing peanuts or something) and sprinkled them onto Boringsville with the possibility of more of this white stuff tomorrow. Now, other people are calling this mysterious substance "snow", but that can't be it. I've seen snow, I've seen it multiple times during the winter, I've already kissed snow sayonara. It promised it wouldn't come back until December. So, it must be cotton balls, white packing peanuts, maybe fat rain, but there's no way it can be snow. Period. *sigh* Still, it is very cold outside. I hate Illinois.

Break 09, Day 1: Noodles and Politics

So, I am still trying to figure out how I'm going to divide my homework load over break. And I'm wondering if I'm ever going to figure out Illinois weather-today in was in the 30's! Grrrr.

But today was good, I got to go to Noodles and Company and catch up with one of my old Bible study leaders from Club ROCK. That was fun, though I ate a little too much Whole Grain Tuscan Linguine, so I'm sleepy right now. Then I finished my politics project. Not fun, but it's done! And I got a perfect score on my politics quiz today! So, in that class, only 1 assignment (the oh-so-lovely Obama project), 2 quizzes and 2 grades discussions to go until I'm done with that class!!! I've learned a lot, but it'll still be nice to be done with it.

Anyway, I am not looking forward to tomorrow cause I work 9-5. 8 hours of crazy busyness-I'll be getting a workout, that's for sure.

My Spring "Break" 09 has Begun

Spring break has arrived. Yay. I'll still be insanely busy with homework, but it'll be nice not to have classes for a week. Watched a movie tonight (well, musical, actually) called "Camelot"-it was interesting, not quite as good as others, but certainly not as bad as others. Also, before that I saw another movie, "Bolt"-I thought it'd be cheesy, but it was actually really cute.

That's all I can do tonight, I'm too tired.

Lateness on a Wednesday

So.... Not much happened. Went to a lecture on the first 60 days of the Obama administration, that was interesting. Plus, I got to meet my teacher in person (this statement may seem odd, but my politics class is online, so before today my contact with my professor has strictly been on cyberspace).

Classes were okay, found out that I got an A on both my lit and speech midterm! Yay! On the downside, my next speech is the Monday after Spring break-boo! Since we signed up for which time slots we wanted to speak, I kind of did this to myself, but it's best to get it out of the way. This one is a Research speech, which I'm particularly dreading; I hate research projects, which is odd, because I love Googling stuff. Oh well. No, I don't want to share the topic; in general, unless you're the teacher or audience members, I don't share my topics. *sigh*

Not much else, when I got home I watched a bunch of "Whose Line is it Anyway" videos on YouTube (even though a lot of their stuff is PG-13, which I don't like, a lot of it is really funny).

Today, I want to go to Ireland, Spain, England and the Netherlands. Man, when I graduate, I need to find a job that requires travel....

Tuesdays Are Not That Great

Hi, before I plunge into today's day, I have a side story from yesterday: Before my speech midterm, about half the class was outside the classroom forming an interesting study group. So I joined in, we all quizzed each other. It was kind of fun. That doesn't really mean anything to any readers of this blog, I just wanted to post this story somewhere before I forgot.

Anyway....

History was okay. Went through more Roman history. Makes me want to go there. I'm really sad about not traveling. It seems all my friends are getting out of the country. *sigh* As I mentioned on my Facebook status, these days Philippians 4:12 seems easier said than done....

Work was OK. I didn't kill anyone while getting there. I'm still convinced that I'm the worst driver ever, but my mom disagrees. Regardless, I still hate driving. But anyway, work was okay, nothing too epic happened.

The weather was in the 50s and 60s and quite rainy. I don't mind too much, cause a) I sometimes like the rain, and b) I'll take rain over snow ANY day.

Well, that's it. I'm in a bit of a funky mood-I think I just plain hate Tuesdays, like Garfield hates Mondays. Who knows. Also, I keep getting this feeling like I forgot to do something, but I have no clue what. So annoying.

Anyway, hope to survive Wednesday, another 8-hour day at school.

Greek Day.... Sort of.

I always try to create some mystery for my titles. Well, today at school there was free Greek food. It was pretty good, even though Greek cuisine isn't necessarily my favorite type (though it's still good). And hey, it was free! Also, this morning I had an orientation meeting for the honor society at school (which wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be). The society's name is Phi Theta Kappa... yep, Greek letters. So that explains my title.

Anyway.... Speech midterm was okay, not as easy as I thought it would be; I didn't do well on the short-answer questions. Oh well. My other classes were okay, but I'm not sure any of my teachers caught on to the fact that Spring break is coming up. It feels like I've got a ton of homework for Wednesday.

I'm tired and stressed, so I bid thee all good night. Oh, and I keep forgetting: I need to travel!!!

A Slightly Strange and Strenuous Sunday

So, today was... weird. It went from good to very good to weird to frustrating to nice to happy. Yeah, a roller coaster day.

I couldn't really fall asleep last night, so even though I technically woke up at 6 am, I think I was basically conscious at 4 am and trying to fall asleep. Weird. Then I got everything done for the morning (which is good). Then I went to church at VCB. Sermon was good, worship was good, and I liked getting to see people that I hadn't seen in a while, even though I didn't get to talk with them nearly as much as I wanted to. Oh well. That minor disappointment and my tiredness contributed to a weird mood and then I went to work, all the while affirming my hatred for driving. Work was very hectic, as usual for a weekend. Then Tribe was good, but short. It was nice to connect, though, and to learn more about Jesus. : ) When I got home, I ate a late dinner, then I had an unplanned Gmail chat with a friend-that was cool. Oh, and I did some homework. The End.

So, that is La Historía de Ashley por el día. This totally turned into either a diary or a novel. But overall, today was good, just weird from all the stuff in one day. Oh, and the title of this post is only mildly accurate, I just wanted to have the words began with "s". Don't know why.

Anyway, I better catch up on sleep. I am NOT looking forward to tomorrow.

Sábado, 21 de marzo, 2009

The majority of my day was consumed by homework, and even then I wasn't quite as productive as I wanted to be. At least I got all my literature, History and most of my politics homework for the weekend done. That's good. I'm currently listening to a Spanish recording. It's interesting. I also watched the news for an hour and a half-crazy, I know, but it's for a political science assignment. I watched the Channel 7 World News at 5:30 and the same day, watched the News Hour with Jim Lehrer (not sure if I spelled that right). The latter is better, in my opinion. Long, but worth it (I know, it's amazing).

In other news, the weather was nice, around 60 degrees or so. This weather has been so unpredictable, though, because last... Sunday, I believe it was 18 degrees, then St. Patrick's Day was 70 degrees, then Wednesday was in the 40s and 50s, the last couple of days have been in the 30s and now it's 60! When will this weird weather end?! You never know if you should just wear a T-shirt or put on five layers! *sigh* I am SO getting out of Illinois....

Well, I better sign off-I'm getting up early tomorrow.

I Kind of Wish Our President Would Be Lazy

All right, now my title probably raises several eyebrows-let me explain. For my Politics class, I have to do a semester long project about the First 100 days of Barack Obama. I have to find an article for EVERY major action in his first 100 days-executive orders, foreign policy decisions, everything. And I have to write a summary for each article. Naturally, even though it's only the middle of the semester (and 59-odd days into his presidency), I've got a lot of stuff to work with, and it's occasionally overwhelming. Hence the title. Sometimes, I just want to tell Obama, "Please, can't you slow down a little? If you have to make this decision, can't it wait until Day 101?". Okay, so that's probably not very logical, but hopefully you see what I mean. Anyway, hopefully that explains things a bit.

Anyway, not much today. Did homework, so I was semi-productive. Really, that's it. Mi vida es un poco aburrida a veces. I know that needs to change. I'm usually not a fan of change, but this whole stuck-in-Boringsville-with-nothing-but-school-and-work does need to end. And my tiredness. I am tired ALL the time. I know part of it is just part of being a college student, but maybe there's some area that needs improvement....

Tengo mucho tarea mañana y necesito hacerle. I probably made a few grammatical mistakes, but whatever. This blog will hopefully eventually teach people some Spanish. Es bueno aprender sobre otras idiomas.

Buenas noches,

I Survived. Barely.

History midterm was OK. I really don't know how I did. I hope I did okay-it's worth 25% of my total grade. Now Speech midterm is Monday. I also made my to-do list for the weekend and I really don't know how on earth I'll get everything done. Ugh. I really wish my thoughts weren't consumed with homework and school. I'm so ready for a break.

From The Bat Cave

Classes were okay. No Spanish today (teacher in conference). Studied for History midterm. Have no idea how I'll do on it. Browsed overseas flights, even though I won't be leaving the country this year. Was tired most of the day. That's all.

Two Posts for the Price of One: Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Eeek! So, I forgot to post yesterday, not good. Guess I've been so busy trying to study that I just forgot. Oh well, not much happened anyway. Found out that I did a decent job on my speech & my Spanish test. I turned in Midterm stuff for lit. That's really all that happened yesterday.

Today is St. Patrick's Day! The Today Show is making me mad because the newscasters and other crew are in Ireland now. Grrr.... And one of my friends is in Ireland right now. How come all my friends are traveling to other countries and I'm stuck in Boringsville, U.S.A.?! Grrr.... School messes up everything.

Anyway, I AM wearing green, don't worry. It's more of a dark hunter green, but still green. I studied for History a little bit. The Midterm shouldn't be too hard, hopefully. I ran into my old Spanish teacher, that was neat. Actually, I also got to see a lot of classmates that I normally don't see, it's interesting. Maybe the luck o' the Irish brings everyone together somehow....

History was OK, went over some Roman emperors again. Work was OK, busy, but not insanely so. Oh-and it was REALLY nice out today! 70 degrees! Yes, the Hallelujah chorus WAS playing, as a matter of fact.

There was a sour note today-after class my mom and I run over to McDonald's to get a Shamrock Shake and we discover that they are out of shakes. Very disappointing, but then, it's McDonald's.

I'm really tired tonight, I need to go to bed soon and study like crazy tomorrow. In case you haven't noticed, I REALLY want to go to Ireland. And England.

Luego,

Short Post on a Sunday

This will be a short post tonight. Because I'm tired.

I'm done with everything for lit. I will mostly be focusing on History this week (midterm Thursday). Work was busy, Tribe was good, homework load (besides midterm stuff) looks mild to moderate. Weather was actually nice. That's basically it.

Good night,

Ashley

Saturday Studying for Midterms....

Hi,

The majority of my Saturday was spent doing (guess, just guess): HOMEWORK! And lots of it. Thankfully, a miracle, happened-I actually got EVERYTHING on my to-do list DONE! That never happens. Sure, it took all day to do so, but who cares? It was pretty great. Anyway, went to church at Willow Creek tonight, had leftover Yogi's for lunch (yes, I recognize the chronological order is off, but whatever) and became a lazy bum after 9:30 or so. It was wonderful.

Well, more work tomorrow (including, well, work), but hopefully after tomorrow it'll get a little easier; I will be done with my midterm portfolio for literature by then. I can't believe the semester is half-done. Thank goodness.

Homework and the SEARS Tower

Homework, homework, homework. I certainly have a lot of it. But thankfully, one of my biggest projects (a 6 page assignment for politics) is done! Now the biggest part is getting my midterm portfolio done for lit. Okay, so I have a TON of homework to do tomorrow, but that's the first priority.

Anyway, went on Facebook for the first time in a couple of days, and the home page layout changed! Kind of weird. I know I'll get used to it eventually, but still, weird. Oh well, it was still enjoyable.

We went to Yogi's pizza, that was really good. Oh, and I found out that Sears Tower is now going to be called the Willis Tower. That's just crap-I don't freaking care who buys the Tower out, it's the SEARS Tower-always has been, always will be, no company is EVER going to change that. Ever. If people call it the Willis Tower I will just say, "No-it's the Sears Tower". *sigh* Oh, those poor people don't know the dangers of messing with a purist....
;D

Anyway, not much else happened today. I just dreamed of going to London, mostly. Grrr, I need to travel more....

Destinations of desire for the day: ENGLAND, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Spain and Italy.

Thursday!!!

Today was History. Watched a video called The Roman Empire in the First Century (I think it's from PBS). Very interesting. Also received the Midterm study guide, since the midterm is in one week. So weird. But I can't study too much on it right now, because at the moment, politics (and a little bit of lit) is taking up most of my homework time. Thankfully, most of my politics homework should be done tomorrow.

Anyway, since today is Thursday, that means the weekend is here!!! Well, for me, that is. Got a Shamrock Shake from McD's (don't eat much from that place, but I do like those shakes), watched It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown with family members and studied, studied, studied.

That's all for now.

Destinations of desire for the day: Rome, Paris, England, Spain and Greece.

It's Not Allowed to be This Cold in March

So, it is currently 21º F outside. Not cool. Especially when the weather was nice a few days ago. I am rebelling against winter by refusing to wear my winter coat anymore. It's March, winter can go away now, OK? Good.

Um... There was no lit today (teacher is at a conference) so I got a mild head start into my midterm portfolio. Basically I have to write an introduction and four short essays. Should be interesting. Then speech class (it was good to watch/listen to speeches without worry) and finally my Spanish test. I think it went okay; some parts were hard, some were absurdly easy, and others could go either way.

I got some homework done tonight, but not as much as I wanted; I have way too much on my mind right now. It's not fun.

Roman Soap Operas

Today was really long. I'm not really sure why. History was today. We talked about the Roman Empire, including Julius Caesar and Augustus, with a little bit of Tiberius, Nero and others, too. Roman family history is really weird sometimes, with husbands cheating on wives, people killing one relative to avenge another-it honestly has as much drama as a soap opera sometimes. Hence the title.

Work was an okay pace. I got a fair amount done. I should probably watch the video that I got out from there soon (it's called "It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown). I remembered that Shamrock Shakes are at McDonalds' again. I don't eat much from that place anymore, but I do like those shakes.

I better go to bed, so I can study tomorrow. The joy of midterms....

Lunes, 9 de marzo, 2009

*sigh* Monday, Monday, Monday. At least it's almost over now. Went to YMCA today, it was good, but I'm starting to get sore.

My speech went okay. No, I am not going to reveal the topic; I don't feel like it, I guess. Right now I'm glad it's over. Two speeches down, two more to go....

Lit was OK, read "America" by Allen Ginsburg (spelling may be incorrect), which basically felt like a long, rambling rant about America. Weird.

La clase de español fue bien. Tengo un examen a miercoles y tengo que estudiar para el. Y yo probablemente cometá muchos errors grammaticals.

Anyway, I may talk more later about today, but for now I'm going to sign off. I actually did have a better day than this post made it seem, but I guess tiredness and stress sapped some energy out of it (midterms are next week-AH!).

Destinations that I want to go to today: Costa Rica, Israel and Rome. Oh, and Colorado. No idea why.

Oh No, It's Daylight Savings Time!

The title is from an episode of "Whose Line is it Anyway". I just remembered it because it seemed so appropriate.

Anyway, as the title suggests, today is Daylight Savings Time and I'm not too happy about that. Sleeping schedule's out of whack, you feel rushed... ugh.

So, today I went to church, did some homework, went to Tribe, which had an amazing potluck (with chili as the main dish!). And I did a little more homework. And I chilled. Tomorrow, the busyness begins. I have a speech tomorrow. Grrrr.... Not looking forward to it. Hopefully it'll be OK, but I won't feel completely better until it's done.

That's all for today. I really need to start posting these earlier. I'm more of a night owl than morning person, but still, I like my sleep and I have my limits.

Exhaustion of a Saturday

Work was crazy busy today. I did a good amount of homework. As a result of these two factors, I am exhausted. That, and the fact that I once again decided to wait until it was late to post on here. Well, despite me being exhausted, my day was fairly productive. Right now, though, I'm just dreading this week. Grrr....

Oh, and I guess I'll share some more details of the surprise party yesterday. The food was great-an amazing caesar salad, bread and Broccoli Cheddar soup from Panera and a beautiful cake. Seriously, it was cool.

Must sign off now, so I may attempt to get some sleep....

Stamping Night-Or So I Thought

All right, this post will be shorter than normal, because I'm tired and I have to work tomorrow. But basically, most of my day was filled with homework, until night where my mom and I went to my friend Mariclare's house to stamp. Or so I thought. Turns out it was really a surprise birthday for me! I was kind of shocked at first, but then it went away, then I was touched by their sweetness. It was really fun too. There are now pictures on Facebook. I may or may post more tomorrow, but for now, I am SO tired. But basically it was great. Oh, and I did stamp some cards, which was good.

Buenas noches,

Cinco de Marzo, 2009

Hello, another day, another blog post. In case you haven't noticed, I've been writing my titles in Spanish so that my life won't seem so boring. So far it's not working, but maybe someday it will work.

Anyway, not much today. Had History, with the Roman Republic, will probably get into Roman Empire next class. Did not do as much homework as I should've-oops. I'll have to do more tomorrow, especially since I work all day Saturday. Grrr, the next few days/weeks or so are not going to be fun....

On a lighter note, I saw a Spanish film that I checked out of the library, Volver. It was really good, but I was grateful for the subtitles. Even though I understood a lot of the Spanish, everyone spoke VERY fast. But still, it was good. Oh, another light note: I'm stamping tomorrow! I'm so glad, I'm in desperate need of cards.

Destinations of desire for the day: Israel, London and Ireland.

Well, I better sign off.

El Cuatro de Marzo

So, today was my birthday! ¡Feliz Cumpleaños a mí!

Overall, I had an OK birthday. One of the highlights was talking to one of my friends today on Skype-YAY!!! I was very happy to catch up with her, and since she's in London right now it has been a while since we had talked.

School wasn't all that great, but it wasn't terrible, either. I'm trying hard not to think about the massive amount of homework that I have for the weekend....

After school, I had Panda Express, which was amazing, and a really nice cake. Oh, and then we watched the Pixar Short Films.

And, I got a pretty good amount of Facebook wall posts and other wonderful birthday greetings, which made me pretty happy.

Oh, and I did not have to clean my cats' litter box; that was pretty cool.

Anyway, guess I should get to bed. I think one downside was that this is the first year that I really feel OLD. I have no idea why.

Destinations of desire for the day: Israel, LONDON, Rome,Ireland and Romania.

Un Día Más....

So, everything is kind of same old, same old right now. History was good, we got into Rome, which seems to have quite a bit of blood, guts, corruption and rape.... At least, that's my impression right now. Will probably change later. And hey, I definitely still want to go there. Also, there was mention of the legend of Romulus and Remus, plus the Sabine women story, which got me thinking of the movie "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and now several of its songs are stuck in my head. In case you don't know, "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" is a 50's Western-esque musical that I saw with my friend Sarah a while ago. It's good, if really cheesy. You'll have to see it for yourself to see how on earth it relates to the Sabine women....

Work was slow, but in a good way. I actually got almost everything done! Yay! Though I now have the chorus to the song "Believe" by Josh Groban stuck in my head. I may explain later why that is, I'm too tired to now. And yes, I am capable of having multiple songs stuck in my head at the same time.

Anyway, should probably get to bed soon, I'm really tired. Only one more day (un día más) until my birthday! That is sooo weird that I'm going to be another year older.

Oh, and today, my top three destinations I want to go to are: Jerusalem, Ireland and Rome.

Monday....

So, Monday has come and gone. Ugh. I guess classes went pretty well, though exactly one week from today I'm giving a speech! Ahhhh! So, I am already nervous about that. I really do need to stress out less.

It's freezing cold. I decided that I want to go to Jerusalem. I constantly change my mind about the number 1 place I want to go, so today it's Jerusalem. Don't ask me why. But, unless God can provide an amazing miracle sometime in August, I'm not going out of the country.
: (

Um.... 2 days until my birthday! So weird. Not much else. Except that it's 18 degrees out. Ewwwww. And, I looked over my previous posts (bad idea) and I was appalled by my grammar. I may or may not change them so that they can be grammatically correct.

Survived Monday, Hoping to survive Tuesday, Looking forward to Wednesday.

Wait-it's March?!?!?!

So, I seriously cannot believe it's March. Already. It should be getting warm. Instead, it's 15 degrees. Yuck. Anyway, I went to church this morning (yay!), that was good, there was a baby dedication and communion. Then I decided that I NEED a car soon, because I hate needing to be picked up and dropped off all the time.

Later I went to Tribe (the young adult group at church), that was good, there were a couple new people, very cool.

And... I finished all the homework that NEEDS to get down today. Which is good. I am not happy that tomorrow is Monday, though.... Ugh. Plus, I'm not feeling too great, so that's another downside.... On the plus side, 3 days until my birthday!

From the Realm of Randomness,

Ashley

PS. By the way: I still want to get out of the country! Yes, I am obsessive.
